“A twelve week intervention compared individuals working with a certified personal trainer (CPT) to individuals following a self-prescribed exercise regiment and found significant differences in body composition, strength, and aerobic capacity between groups. Individuals working with a CPT increased lean body mass by an average of 2.5lbs versus no change in the self-prescribed group. Chest press strength increased by 42% and leg press strength increased by 35% in the group working with a CPT, versus 19% and 23%, respectively, in the self-prescribed group. Aerobic capacity increased by 7% for those working with a CPT while a decrease in aerobic capacity was seen in the self-prescribed group.”
